It's 1977 New York. The velvet rope outside 254 West 54th Street is the most contested piece of real estate in Manhattan. Steve Rubell is on the door, hand-picking the crowd himself. Andy Warhol holds court at his usual table. Legend has it Bianca Jagger arrived at her 30th birthday party on a white horse. Turned away one night, Chic's Nile Rodgers went home furious and wrote Le Freak about it, and it became one of the biggest disco records of all time.
That's Studio 54. Gold light, mirrored walls, glitter on the dancefloor, and a soundtrack running through Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor and the Bee Gees that never let up.
The Stables Matakana becomes the room for one night only. Six hours, three DJs, the same unapologetic excessive glamour: The Mayor of Yesteryear, Nigel Love and Paul Flynn aka Flynny, spinning disco, funk and soul from 7pm till 1am.
