It’s the middle of a Dunedin winter so what better time for a band to hit the road
and head north to the top of the South Island. Tui award winning band Delgirl are
taking their soulful roots music on a whirlwind tour up the island for two special
gigs in Amberley and Karamea.
“We were thrilled to be asked to come up and play in Karamea again” say the
band. “We first played there in 2010 as part of Arts On Tour – it is an amazing
place, so incredibly beautiful and remote. So few people ever get to go there –
and we get to go again – fantastic!. It was an offer we just couldn’t refuse.”
It’s a long drive to Karamea from Dunedin , so a gig at Amberley on the way up is
perfect. “We are really excited to be playing at the famous Nor’Wester Café for
the first time. Our friends Big Daddy Wilson, Steve Gillies and Matt Langley have
played there and had a great time – wonderful people, food, the whole buzz of
the place. Can’t wait to finally play there ourselves”.
Delgirl’s Erin Morton, Lynn Vare and John Dodd are bringing an arsenal of songs
about love, loss, dying seals, bad parenting and other stories. Their fluid,
luminous voices meld with guitar, ukulele, banjo and stand-up bass in songs that
swing with sweet-tempered ease – perfect for a winter’s night!
