Come and hear a sampling of local talent from our local folk and acoustic music clubs: Acoustic Routes, the Bluegrass Society, Kapiti Live Music Club, Mainly Acoustic (Upper Hutt) and Pukerua Bay.
Acoustic Routes is showcasing The Magpies. New Magpie Peter Denee joins Mary Livingston, David Johnstone and Marie Russell. The line-up may change but the Magpie music remains a mixture of various shiny items, and is still mostly acapella.
From the Wellington Bluegrass Society: Dixie Lix.
Dixie Lix are a Wellington based acoustic band who play country and bluegrass music. They are: Wanda Menchi (mandolin and vocals ), Garrett Evans (guitar and vocals), Wayne Robinson (five-string banjo) and Wayne Mills (bass and vocals).
Mainly Acoustic in Upper Hutt is represented by the very classy combo of Susan and John Sutherland, with Barry Carter on bass. They will be doing mainly American songs, sourced from the likes of Gillian Welch.
From the Kapiti Live Music Club comes another trio: ‘RateD PG’ (Paul Brady Gary Allen and Danilo Blaza). They do originals and covers in an eclectic country genre .
And Pukerua Bay Folk Club is featuring father and son duo, Chris and Bobby Prowse. Chris is a well-known guitarist and the composer of the “Trouble on the Waterfront” project that documents the 1951 waterfront dispute in song. His son Bobby is a very fine singer.
