About Hilltop

WHILE AUSTRALIAN HIP HOP CONTINUES TO BREAK NEW GROUND, THERE IS ONLY ONE ACT SYNONYMOUS WITH THE TERM GROUND-BREAKING. WITHIN A GENRE THAT IS GROWING AT AN EXPONENTIAL RATE, ADELAIDE’S HILLTOP HOODS WILL ALWAYS REMAIN LEADERS.

This was evident from the reaction to the crew’s last album ‘State of the Art’, the biggest selling Australian Hip Hop album of all time. Not only did it hold the number one spot for two weeks, it won two ARIA’s and turned out to be a multi-platinum monster. MC’s Suffa and Pressure continued their art of weaving tales of everyday life into razor sharp musicality, while DJ Debris remained the backbone of the band’s formidable live show. An album so big, so fresh and so well executed ‘State of the Art’ transformed the perception of Hip Hop in Australia.
Their success has not been limited to Australia though; the Hoods have proven they can take their sound to the far corners of the globe. They’ve toured everywhere from Switzerland to South Korea, appearing at such festivals as Glastonbury, Splendour In The Grass, T In The Park, Oxygen, Openair Frauenfeld, Splash and have spent years grinding out acclaimed headline tours. Sharing a stage with Eminem on his sold out Australian tour speaks volumes of the trio’s popularity and their ability to translate to a wider audience.
Apart from their accomplishments on stage Hilltop Hoods have also enjoyed success off stage with their own label, Golden Era Records. An incubator for some of the country’s most exciting artists (Vents / Briggs / Funkoars), Golden Era Records is widely recognised as one of Australia’s finest Hip Hop labels. Apart from the label, the Hoods continue to give back to the local scene through the ‘Hilltop Hoods Initiative’, a grant that the Adelaide trio established in 2005 to support up and coming Hip Hop artists around Australia.
The group continue to move forward at light speed without ever looking back, and their new album ‘Drinking From the Sun’ is no exception. The first single ‘I Love It’, featuring the amazing vocal talents of Sia, has been released to widespread acclaim and has already reached double platinum status. This single is the first taste of an album three years in the crafting and is the tip of the iceberg — ‘Drinking From the Sun’ will also feature Black Thought (The Roots), Chali 2na (Jurassic 5), Classified (Canada), Lotek (UK) and Solo (Horrorshow).
‘Drinking From the Sun’ was released through Golden Era Records/Universal Music in Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, New Zealand & Switzerland.
And after years of working independently to share their music in the States the Hoods will be ‘officially’ unleashing themselves on the American market after recently signing a deal with Fontana (USA).
