Gig Information

Raw Americana, Dynamite, Dirty Blues, Stolen Peso's, Rough House Folk, a smoking gun...

Snakeskin Suitcase turns ONE - a year to the day !!!
Yep one year ago this baby was born - No presents please cos we got it covered ... The best bands around in the best bar around. No messin' around ma'am!
Three celebrated acts set in the intimacy of Newmarket's favourite little hide-away. The Bads & Bond Street Bridge are playing full band sets, while Great North will bring their stripped back beauty. Yessir this gig will be off the hook good !!!

THE BADS arn't bad at all. The Bads are brilliant. The helps launch the Snakeskin gigs a year ago & are popping back in to celebrate. Dianne Swann & Brett Adams are both accomplished songwriters & performers. Together they are a force of nature. They've earned their reputations working with some of the best artists from here & the world; from Thom York to Tim Finn, Gin Wigmore to Flip Grater, Dave McCartney to Opshop. New album Travel Light was released in March to universal love. This gig features the full band line-up with Wayne Bell (Dave Dobbyn, Greg Johnson), Mike Hall (Pluto, Nightchoir) & Dave Kahn,(TheGrifters,Broadsides,DonMcGlashan). . www.thebads.com

Alt-country charmers & Tui award winning GREAT NORTH (Best Folk Album for Halves) join us after their trully great set at our Christmas show. Frontman/songwriter Hayden Donnell & his partner Rachel Donnell will delight us with what they describe as “music you listen to while you sell your children to buy grain to feed your other children.”

Psychedelic Antifolk stars BOND STREET BRIDGE have been very busy. 2013 sees them recording a soon to be released album, as well as touring the nation with their critically-acclaimed show ‘The Explorer’s Club: Antarctica,’ a multi-media set including spoken-word storytelling & all-original songs dealing with the trials & tribulations of early Antarctic explorers Scott & Shackleton. The show was described in the Domion Post as 'a perfect evening of music,' and has played to sold-out houses at Festivals,bar-rooms, theatres & halls all over the country. Enigmatic frontman Sam Prebble is joined by Nina McSweeney, Brendan Turner & percussionist Logan Compain.

Presented by Mr Callum Gentleman, Snakeskin Suitcase is a regular event showcasing the best of New Zealand's Americana scene, set in an intimate room where the crowd can feel the heat firing from the artists bodies. We had The Bads launching the gig back a to a packed house, Delaney Davidson's powerful ruckus in September, Adam McGrath's spine-tingling fully unplugged set in the middle bar floor in October, The Clean's Robert Scott playing a surprise set with Tiny Ruin's Hollie Fullbrook, to Bannerman, Elliot Brown, Bat Country, Nadia Reid, Swampland & more.
