Ruth Armishaw is what you could call a chameleon of the music world in Wellington, a jazz/opera/pop/musical-theatre singer and pianist, hiding in restaurants for you to discover.
At Veni Vidi Vici, you will hear her play and sing a swath of familiar and some not so familiar (perhaps some original) jazz and latin jazz tunes. This is her passion. As the night goes on, her voice opens up, and you can hear her scat through the changes of a fast swing, belt out a Shirley Bassey number, or wallow in a slow moody ballad.
You may have seen her in places such as Meow, singing with her Brazilian trio Impostores at Latin Club, or as a solo jazz act last year at Daddy O's every Sunday. She's done the lunchtime concert circuit with a varitey of styles. And if you are an opera fan, you'll have seen her over the last 12 years as a peasant, aristocrat or gypsy in the chorus of the NZ Opera.
Veni Vidi Vici is Wellington's newest Italian/Spanish inspired restaurant. The food is delicious, the wine list is exotic and the atmosphere warm and inviting. Come and enjoy it.
