Gig Information

95bFM, theaudience.co.nz, Phantom Billstickers,Sapporoand The FOLD are thrilled to announce the 8th annual Fancy New Band Showcase, rounding off NZ Music Month in style on Saturday the 31st of March at the Kings Arms. We've got six of the fanciest and newest bands to show you what's really happening in the New Zealand Music scene. With artists ranging from locals here in Auckland, all the way down to Invercargill at the bottom of the South,

Fancy New Band Showcase 2014 is a real snapshot of all of the outstanding NEW MUSIC from across the country as a whole.

Playing the 2014 Fancy New Band showcase is…

SHUNKAN
RACE BANYON
PURPLE PILGRIMS
TOTEMS
PALS
And
HEAVY

Hailing from LA originally, now residing in Invercargill, SHUNKAN's dreamy shoegaze will keep you captivated. Already drawing comparisons to the likes of Karen O & Tegan and Sara, Shunkan's first Auckland gig is not to be missed.

RACE BANYON is fast becoming an ever present force in the Wellington electronic scene, and with his EP Whatever Dreams Are Made Of getting plenty of critical acclaim and attention, it's only a matter of time before he makes the big time.

Race Banyon's labelmate TOTEMS is one of the most sought after producers and musicians of the moment. Real name Rueben Winter, his musical conquests so far cross tons of genres, but is this time treating us to his excellent solo electronic work. Totems is always a good time.

PURPLE PILGRIMS are already starting to make waves overseas with their recent split LP on UK label Upset The Rhythm and performances from NYC to Shanghai. Based in the Coromandel, this is probably Auckland's best chance to get a sneak preview of what might appear on their debut album.

New fuzz rock group PALS are busy making friends in Auckland while playing shows in as many tiny venues they can find. They'll hit the big leagues at the Fancy New Band Showcase, playing to a Kings Arms crowd, ready and willing to melt some faces.

HEAVY After wowing the audience with a big set at Chronophonium earlier this year, HEAVY are about to bring their name to the Kings Arms. Heavy’s brand of 4:20 clip art rap is sure to turn some heads, and after May 31st, you could be that one person at the party who says “I knew them before they were big.”

This year also sees a close partnership between theaudience.co.nz and Fancy New Band Showcase, with all the artists available to listen to on theaudience website, and a competition to be held in conjunction with theaudience where you can win just by listening and sharing. More info on that competition to follow.

Fancy New Band 2014 - forget the old this music month, it's time to check out the NEW.
