SEASONS: the cyclical changes of the atmospheric patterns within nature.
And so it is with the Auckland-based band of the same name - pattern-shifts and changes in the atmosphere. Fusing the jarringly heavy grooves of modern metalcore with the progressive rhythmic trickery of the djent movement, the West Auckland natives embody an inventive and dynamic tour-de-force in modern New Zealand metal.
The band's first full-length release PATRIARCH represents the culmination of several years of lateral experimentalism and grafting hard work. A concept album integrating a number of converging thematics from the natural world, it showcases the writing and performance dynamics of a well-drilled musical unit that have fine-tuned their craft with both mesmerising precision and an unrelenting quest for maximum aural impact.
Having already shared the stage with the likes of Lamb of God, Between The Buried And Me, Animals As Leaders, and Thy Art Is Murder, PATRIARCH will undoubtedly appeal to fans of these luminaries and to fans of many divergent metal tastes beyond them. For anyone desiring an album of equal parts menacing heaviness and dizzying technicality, PATRIARCH will be a vital piece of New Zealand metal's proud tradition.
This winter, SEASONS will take PATRIARCH on the road for four New Zealand album release shows in Hamilton, Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. Ably supported by a selection of New Zealand's best local talent, Seasons will demonstrate both the justification for the high level of regard for their live performances and the undeniable power of the PATRIARCH material in a live setting.
