ACOUSTIC ROUTES MONTHLY CONCERT -
Our last for the year, featuring: PORTABLE PANIC & NOT THE DAY JOB
PORTABLE PANIC
Tony Ricketts and Jenny Kilpatrick bring together very different musical backgrounds and a wide-ranging repertoire.
Jenny grew up as a folkie, with a lifelong love of the blues. She was known for unaccompanied trad until she started working with Tony. These days she's just as likely to be listening to Chet Baker, though, or Sharon Robinson or Jackson Browne.
Tony is a child of rock'n'roll who later counted Laughing Lenny Cohen, Dory Previn, and various McGarrigles and Wainwrights as role-models. He won prizes for songwriting in the 1980s, though their covers range widely.
Jenny plays recorder, whistle and kazoo, and Tony plays guitar. They both sing and play bass guitar. Jude Madill will join them on fiddle for this concert.
NOT THE DAY JOB
NTDJ is a group of musicians drawn mainly from the trade union movement. The group's composition is in a state of dynamic flux, with the current lineup being Bill Newson (EPMU), George Hollinsworth (EPMU), Ross Teppett (CTU) and Mark Wallis (PSA).
They play mainly original songs with strong worker and social justice themes - with a few standards thrown in for good measure. NTDJ was started by longtime local folk stalwart Peter Conway - who plans to be back in the band next year.
