Gig Information

Tè is the interdisciplinary art duo of Kynan Tan and Andrew Brooks. Collaboratively they create works in the format of performances, installations, kinetic sculptures, recordings, writings and thought experiments, each using sound as a departure point. These works explore the intersection of pop and noise and question the ephemerality and physicality of sound, listening experience, improvisation, and audience/performer relationship.

Tè have performed in Japan, Australia and Germany and exhibitied at FirstDraft Gallery (Sydney) and Sydney Non-Objective Gallery. Their releases include Circuitous on the hellosQuare Recordings imprint and the conceptual album 100% Hits via torrent.

Bios

Kynan Tan is an artist working with digital processes to investigate networks, data transference and relational structures between multiple senses. These works take the form of multi-screen audio-visual performances, installations, 3D-printed sculptures, improvised sound, and kinetic artworks involving electronic circuits, speakers and lights. Kynan has been the recipient of a DCA Young People and the Arts Fellowship (2013), Australia Council Artstart grant (2013), and participated in the JUMP Mentorship Program (2012), studying with audio-visual artist Robin Fox. Kynan has performed in Japan, Germany and throughout Australia, including events such as Test Tone (Tokyo), Channels Video Art Festival (Melbourne) and the NOW now Festival of Art (Sydney), and his works have also been exhibited at MOCA (Taipei, Taiwan), NH7 Festival (Pune, India), First Draft (Sydney) and the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art.

Andrew Brooks is a Sydney ­based artist, writer, curator and organiser whose work takes the form of installations, performances, text works and sound recordings. He researches researches performance, labour, politics and noise and has an interested in the act of translation and states of uncertainty. He has performed and/or exhibited in Europe, Japan and Australia and his writing has appeared in Das Superpaper, Rabbit, Westspace Journal and unMagazine. He is a co-director of Firstdraft Gallery and was a co-­curator of the NOW now Festival and monthly concert series from 2012­-2014.
