Gig Information

Grab your dancing shoes and help Kaibosh (www.kaibosh.org.nz) feed those in our community who need it most.

On Sunday 20th September, the Southern Cross will be hosting a musical extravaganza to support fantastic local charity Kaibosh Food Rescue. All bands and DJs will be playing for free. The Southern Cross will also be donating a significant lump sum and making Kaibosh their charity of the month for September. Proceeds from barbecues and meat and veggie raffles will go to Kaibosh.

Craft beer from Tuatara and Black Dog will be donated for the event and numerous local businesses have kindly offered amazing lots and prizes for a charity auction and raffle.

It’s not all for the adults though - there will be plenty of entertainment for the kids and spot prizes too. Entertainment will start at 2pm.

Your MC for the day will be the inimitable Redbird Jnr.

Please come down and show your support for this worthy cause. More news and the full programme to follow - we look forward to seeing you on the dance floor!

Featuring live music from;

Melting Faces - The psychedelic garage folk blues soundscape that is Jesse Walsh, Blair Clarke, Dan O'brian and Ben Lovell.

Pick ’n' Mix - Soul divas Vanessa Stacey and DJ Ayesha Kee. With DJ Ayesha rolling the soul and funk tunes and Vanessa running the mike, this is a combo that fills the dance floor. They’re sweeter than a mixed bag from your local dairy!

Bryce International Airways - Wellington seven-piece band showcasing the songwriting of singer/drummer and Welly music stalwart John Martin. Finely crafted pop and funk displaying a love of catchy melodies, intriguing lyrics and 70’s era grooves. These boys have the funk. Formerly of the Deville Brothers, the Leisure Suits and Emulsifier.

Les Garcons de la Mer – two lost gypsy sailors making mellow ripples with their gumbo blend of sound. They are Callum Martin (from Auckland rock band The Checks) playing guitar, loop gizmos and vox, and Lorenzo Pradel (from local Wellington band, Brockaflower) on vox and tenor saxophone. Their sound is a mix of strawberry buzz pop, mixed with lounge hip-hop and velvet soul.

The Polly Johnson Set - A musically diverse, endearingly dysfunctional and endlessly entertaining five-piece collection of Wellingtonian songwriters and performers. When pressed to describe their music, the best they've come up with to date is 'gypsy punk vaudeville cabaret’.

DJs

Redbird Jnr - Radioactive FM’s breakfast host and DJ around town. This man needs no introduction.

The Village Idiots - UK DJs, NZ residents Lee, Dan and Peter bring funk, soul, groove and beats from around the world. Tunes from the past, present and future.

Skaman Selector - Skaman Steve and his eclectic mix of soul, ska, mod and rocksteady classics.

Auctioneer:

In addition to his old skool skills on the ones and twos, Steve Bown has decades of experience as a professional auctioneer in Europe and Australasia.
