It’s happenin’ all over again! The iconic Staircase Nightclub will be resuscitated one more time with an unforgettable party that pays homage to the golden era of Auckland’s gay nightlife.
The Staircase Reunion will be hosted by legendary drag mother, Bertha the Beast (Sydney), and her supremely talented sisters, Buckwheat and Tess Tickle.
The three original Staircase divas will be joined by three original Staircase DJs, Alex Taylor (Sydney), Bevan Keys and James Leuii – with many more of your favourite old school disc jocks to be announced!
Opening its doors long before Homosexual Law Reform, the Staircase Nightclub spanned three decades and three venues – first on Fort Street, then on Albert Street, and finally on Karangahape Road.
The 2016 reunion party will play out across all three floors of the historic Galatos venue, just behind Karangahape Road.
Opening at 8pm, the infamous Piano Bar will be recreated in the downstairs basement, featuring live performances from Cindy of Samoa, Leon Wharekura, Victor and friends.
The main Staircase dance floor will open at 10pm, with dramatic reenactments of your favourite Staircase drag shows at midnight, 1.30am and 3.00am – including a late, late show from the inimitable DeeZaStar, plus a shameful dance-of-the-desperados at 3.30am for those still standing!
An intimate Marae-in-the-Sky VIP Lounge will be located upstairs, where the icons of yesteryear will be holding court like a flock of High Street hairdressers.
