Psychedelic free-jazz act Sunburst Finish are the jazz equivalent of a psychotic steam train, burning through the outskirts of a city skyline. With smoke billowing from the stack, and the jarring buzz of metal on metal, they embody what jazz was always meant to be; innovative and chaotic. Boasting some of the best improvisation talents in the country, they have harboured some of NZ’s greatest jazz stalwarts.
Sometimes, when the night is dark and the thoughts recede into blackness, music has the singular ability to breathe new life into tired lungs. Sunburst Finish do more than breathe new life into jazz, they are more akin to a hospital for the wounded of spirit.
Offering a new perspective on their impressive musical works, Neill Duncan and Lucien Johnson’s duelling saxes will ride effortlessly atop the driving and pulsating bursts of Ant Donaldson and Tom Callwood’s rhythm section.
Stirring the bubbling cauldron of nu-jazz prowess, Sunburst Finish will be cooking up something both wild and disciplined. The newest rebirth of cool.
jazz,
Sunburst Finish
