GALANT DELIGHTS
NZ Barok and Rachael Beesley
Saturday 5 November – Sunday 6 November
St Luke’s Church, Remuera, Auckland
The elegance and charm of the great courts of 18thcentury Europe are brought to life by international violinist Rachael Beesley, who joins NZ Barok in a concert series celebrating little-known musical gems from the galant age of music.
NZ Barok is New Zealand’s national baroque orchestra, and its third and final concert series of 2016 delights with a programme featuring some of the most prolific European composers of the mid-to-late 1700’s.
Works by Giuseppe Antonio Brescianello, Michel Corrette, Evaristo Felice Dall'Abaco, Michel-Richard de Lalande, Giovanni Battista Sammartini and Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer are performed by renowned soloist Rachael Beesley, who showcases the ground- breaking galant-style harmonies that delighted the royal courts of Europe, almost 400 years ago.
Australian-based Rachael Beesley is a talented and versatile violinist and musician, who has devoted her life to performing, teaching and researching, and is one of the world leaders in the field of historically informed performance (HIP). She is a regular member of some of Europe's finest ensembles, including as guest concertmaster with Anima Eterna Brugge, Les Muffatti, La Petite Bande, Il Complesso Barocco, Bach Concentus, Restoration Company and the New Dutch Academy as well as performing regularly with Les Arts Florissants, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Combattimento Consort.
