Paul Cathro is a son of the South that uprooted his most important shoes and guitar related paraphernalia to Auckland in 2014. After cutting his teeth with such Dunedin luminaries as Alizarin Lizard, Fat Children, Biff Merchants, Ha The Unclear (a band with whom he toured Australia, and supported Courtney Barnett on her 2016 New Zealand tour) and releasing two solo offerings, PC is back with a pop/rock gem called Like The Time.
Now under the simple guise of The Paul Cathro Band, he is joined by Ha The Unclear’s Theodore Francis on bass guitar and Edward Castelow (Dictaphone Blues, The Conjurors) on the drum set. The song was recorded at the first rehearsal the band had together in Edward's dainty studio space Mezzanine, and the vibrant energy can literally be tasted when listened to. Something that only three people with a ‘no time wasted’ philosophy and a limited knowledge of the song can produce. The song was then taken home with Theodore where he mixed it 5 or 6 times until the delicate balance of honesty, psychedelic guitar and fuzz bass was obtained.
Like ‘The one where Rachel finds out’, “Like the Time” is a reminder that we don’t always come out of a relationship with fond memories. Like The Time is up for FREE download on bandcamp for a limited time and the band will be performing the song live - amongst others - at a specially designed FREE single release function on Thursday 20th April at The Golden Dawn: Tavern Of Power.
Joined by good mates, Herriot Row.
