New Plymouth is genuinely one of The Frank Burkitt Band’s favourite towns and the 4th Wall Theatre one of their favourite venues.
They will be bringing their personal brand of jazz-folk back to Taranaki for what will surely be a great night of music. They will be joined by the piano shredding, vocal talents of the great Louis Thompson-Munn who will be doing a short set of his own you lucky, lucky people! Buy a ticket now.
The Frank Burkitt Band have become one of New Zealand’s finest string bands and their style can best be described as ‘Acoustic Swing’. Drawing influence from American roots music and artists such as The Wood Brothers, Pokey LaFarge and Nina Simone, Burkitt’s entertaining and occasionally rambling anecdotes give audiences a chance to really relate to his songs.
The originality of the songs stand out and the arrangements will keep your mind guessing and your foot tapping.
They are: Frank Burkitt (vocals, guitar), Kara Filbey (vocals, percussion), Cameron Dusty Burnell (mandolin, tenor banjo) and James Geluk (double bass).
Joining the band for one night only will be the amazing Louis Thompson Munn:
Wellington-based pianist & vocalist. Louis is a staple of the thriving Wellington music scene and has been involved with a number of groups and performed with many of the country’s top musicians, including NZ Jazz legend Rodger Fox in his Big Band & Jazz Ensemble, Wellington’s premier covers band Superbad Soul Section, Royal NZ Air Force Jazz Band, Wellington City Shake-em-on-Downers & the Neo Hot Jive Orchestra to name a few. Currently performing with his own band under the moniker ‘LTM’, his Jazz trio ‘Ol King Cole’, Trip-Hop act ‘The 16th’, Motown & Soul band ‘The Fades’, as well as performing solo and with other Wellington artists & bands.
