Inside.out goes back to the future with our musician guest LUKE HURLEY. Luke was our very first guest back in 2012. It's high time we welcomed him back.
Luke is well-known as a highly experienced independent guitarist and singer-songwriter. He was born in Kenya and moved with his family to Gore NZ when aged 12. Growing up in Kenya and Zanzibar exposed Luke to Arabic, African and Indian styles of music which have influenced him to this day. Mississippi John Hurt, Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius and Chick Corea were also influences. Luke’s style of playing has also been described as
“Indian tabla meets Irish rock”
His idiosyncratic and perceptive songs - over a career spanning three decades and counting - are admired by many and in demand for recording by other artists. Plus, his guitar-playing skills are simply breathtaking.
Come from 7 00pm for open mic spoken word. All writing - poetry, fiction, flash, micro, perf poetry, life story etc - are welcome, and everyone has up to 5 or 6 minutes at the mic. Sign up on the open mic sheet when you arrive. Plus there are word challenges with random book and chocolate bar prizes. Meet other writers, find out about competition & events and get inspired by what you hear. Let's here what you're writing...at Inside.Out, One2One Café, 121 Ponsonby Rd.
