Audio Foundation presents:
SPELEO-SONICS.2
sounds in a lava-cave
February 2nd 2020

For the first Audio Foundation event of 2020 we are excited to return to the unique environment of the Maungawhau lava cave where in 2018 the Audio Foundation held the first iteration of SPELEO-SONICS.2. A short feature about our first magical outing can be found on RNZ Upbeat. Please join us in the afternoon on Sunday 2nd February for another journey in underground music featuring acclaimed Japanese sound artists Akio Suzuki and Aki Onda, and local electronic musicians Richard Francis and Old Chips.

Presale tickets are $30 and can be found UnderTheRadar.co.nz/tickets. Ticket holders will be provided with location and other information by email following purchase.

ARTIST BIOS:
Japanese sound artists, Akio Suzuki and Aki Onda work at the intersection of sound and space, unfolding reflexively in unconventional environments. Though they differ in generation and performance practice, the NYC-based Onda (b. 1967) and the Kyotango-based Suzuki (b. 1941) share an astonishingly inventive, open-ended, and spontaneous approach to the infinite and variegated possibilities of sound.

By responding to the architecture, acoustics and energy of the performance space, Suzuki and Onda, exploring the possibilities of site-specific happenings utilizing self-made instruments, analogue tape machines and radios, wood pieces, nails, hammer, and other daily objects in profound explorations of the surrounding acoustic-environment.

In collaboration, they share a deep interest in the relationship between sound and space.
