Oscar LaDell at The Vic Theatre Devonport, Friday 9 July, 8pm
Oscar LaDell, 22, was born in the US and raised in Purakaunui, Dunedin. The second-generation bluesman started out playing blues standards in nightclubs featuring songs by Muddy Waters, BB King and Guitar Slim, with funk, rock, soul, R&B gradually influencing Oscar’s performances.
Oscar's original songs range from gentle slow dance to explosive and hypnotic guitar solos and his powerful and expressive guitar playing and soulful singing create a fresh sound that is reminiscent of the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
The singer’s latest album, “Love & Revolution” is an expansive and rich collection of songs and sounds, drawing heavily on R&B and psychedelia to tell a nuanced story with a wide range of sonic landscapes.
