After their highly successful debut gig at Galatos recently, Helium Project are pleased bring their ‘Matariki’ show to Devonport’s Harmony Hall as part of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) celebrations.
Helium Project are 10 talented musicians producing electronic and string laden emotive, ambient soundscapes with hip hop style beats. Their show includes tracks that relate to each of the stars in the Matariki cluster.
Narrator and vocalist Ash Patea, an experienced educator of tikanga and te reo Māori, will weave the story of Matariki through the show aiming to inspire you on your reo Māori journey.
Project creator Nick Edgar describes the show: “Our aim is to create a sonic landscape that transports the audience into the stories behind the star cluster and celebrate Matariki and Te Wiki o te Reo Māori”.
The line-up: Ash Patea on vocals and narrator; Nick Edgar on synthesiser, guitar, flute or vocals; Cam McLean on keys or trumpet; George Edgar on guitar, bass, synthesiser or vocals; Apera Woodfine on guitar, bass, synthesiser, drums or vocals; Ollie O’Loughlin on drums or saxophone; Helen Crook on lead violin; Michael Hunter on second violin; Judith Gust on viola; Tilly Harvey on cello.
