Indian classical music is not just for entertainment, it is designed to elevate your consciousness. Irish music too has a mystical place in the global imaginary - it's traditional music is revered not only as a portal into the soul of Ireland, but also as a form of ‘World Music’ in its own right. Both cultures have an incredibly rich and ancient well of musical and storytelling traditions that generations of musicians have been able to draw from.
Rocky Bay Folk Club are very pleased to present an intimate concert exploring the links between these two musical forms, with the Basant Madhur ensemble bringing a blend of sitar, tabla, Indian violin and guitar, and presenting examples of Indian classical dance. Basant Madhur is a widely acknowledged tabla player and a much-respected artist in the arena of Indian classical music. He along with his family are known as the finest Indian classical musicians in New Zealand.
