Gig Information

Pyramid Club is pleased to present the extraordinary and unique Nordic vocalist Anna Fält in concert with special guests across two nights.

Anna Fält performs songs from the Scandinavian and Finno-Urgic traditions as well as her own material in the form of settings of ancient spells, folk songs, yoik, lullabies, stories from the Finnish forests and the Nordic landscapes.

As a solo artist, Anna works in Sweden and Finland, the rest of Europe and internationally. She gives courses and workshops, composes music for various performances, takes on assignments as presenter for Sweden’s Radio and researches folk music.

NIGHT 2:

Anna will perform solo and alongside Rob Thorne (taonga pūoro), Nell Thomas and Erika Grant (crystal singing bowls and assorted instruments)

New Zealand Māori composer, performer, improvisor, collaborator, anthropologist and specialist Rob Thorne M.A. (Ngāti Tumutumu) is a diverse and original explorer in the evolving journey of taonga pūoro, fusing these ancient voices with modern sounds and technology.

His debut solo album Whaia te Maramatanga (Rattle Records) is a deeply felt and highly concentrated conversation between the past and the present - a musical passage of identity and connection.

A musician with over 25 years performance experience in bands and solo, predominantly within alternative rock, free noise, experimental, and improvisational sound art, his work since 2001 with traditional Māori musical instruments (taonga pūoro) has seen him complete an MA in Social Anthropology, and since 2008, incorporate this diverse experience to create long, beautifully transcendent, ambient compositions using loops, intelligently blending the modern with the ancient: a format that is now being picked up and utilised by many taonga pūoro players.

Nell Thomas and Erika Grant perform together on various instruments in numerous ensembles including Orchestra of Spheres and Cookie Brooklyn and the Crumbs. For this collaboration with Anna Fält they will be playing gongs and crystal bowls.
