Following their unprecedented return in support for Bikini Kill earlier this year, legendary Tāmaki Makaurau punk group Fake Purr have just announced a very special one-off show at Whammy Bar next month.
With their riotous reunion winning rave reviews, 13th Floor said they delivered a “performance so wild you could feel the floor shaking”, it felt only right to bring the magic one more time, so mark Saturday 21 October in your dinky diaries.
Formed by Brenda, Stephanie, Brigid, and Stella - all legends of the local scene - Fake Purr banded together in the mid-nineties to bring their own rebellious brand of riot grrl music to Auckland audiences, releasing a handful of lathe singles and demos before calling it a day in 2005.
Fake Purr will be joined at this show by O/Pus, a veritable supergroup featuring Jade Farley of Pumice, Liz Mathews of Goldifox, and Beth Ducklingmonster. Also on the menu are killer quartet The Sour, who began life as a Hole covers band before adopting Courtney Love’s “give no fucks” approach to their own songwriting. Rounding out the night is DJ Lil Unit, spinning anthems of the era to get us all dancing.
