Pyramid Club is happy to present an unlikely pairing of two experimental acts from other sides of the globe: Jason Kahn from Switzerland and Australia’s The Charles Ives Singers.
The Charles Ives Singers
Formed in 1992, underground outsiders The Charles Ives Singers are a Melbourne institution. Consisting of renowned visual artists Victor Meertens, Alexis Ensor & David Palliser, C.I.S, don't rehearse or plan gigs as they rely on the stealth of being alive. They are totally ready to fail in concert & sometimes come close. To be untrained in sound construction they consider a blessing. They view amateurism as a gift & intuition as their illogical ally.
Jason Kahn
Born 1960 in New York, Jason Kahn is a artist, musician and writer. He lives and works in Zürich.
Kahn works with electronics, using a chaotic feedback system that places his body in the circuit flow. Grabbing the open leads of a modular synthesizer with his hands makes and breaks circuits, causing the synthesizer to overload or momentarily collapse. Various contact microphones, electromagnetic inductors and the synthesizer's own output are used to modulate the parameters of the synthesizer, resulting in dynamic system that allows great expressivity. Mixed with field recordings and live radio, these performances are essentially site-specific works, improvising with the space at hand, both in its physicality and the sounds found there.
Kahn has exhibited installations in museums, galleries, art spaces and public sites internationally. His other activities include sound pieces for radio, film, dance and theatre. Kahn has given concerts throughout Europe, North and South America, Australia, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Japan, Korea, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore, Turkey and South Africa.
