BUZZEE DANCE MUSIC 4 THE WHOLE WHANAU. Auckland, we see you. These two Chengdu sisters will be taking over Whammy Bar for a Wednesday night of hardware-led riddim and sound. Expect drum machines, synthesizers and ethereal trippy vibes.
Kaishandao (Mandarin for ‘machete’) is a Chengdu-based producer and musician from Wellington. Forged from the isolated hills of Pōneke and melded by the breakneck BPM of China, Kaishandao produces a sound of complex origins and eccentric imperfections into a playful mash of delirious dance music. Her music has been featured on Boiler Room and NTS Radio, as well as coverage from MixMag Asia and BBC World. This is her first ever Aotearoa tour.
Wu Zhuoling 吴卓玲 is the chameleonic pioneer at the forefront of Chengdu’s live electronic music counterculture. Her independent music exploration has been a long and winding one - from singer-songwriter, bandleader, educator, performer and producer, her rich experience has expanded the dimensions of thought and, not surprisingly, given rise to the evolution of her own music. This show at Whammy is her debut show in Aotearoa ahead of summer dates in Wellington and Nelson with Kaishandao.
