Tāmaki Makaurau's Emily Bateman is developing her own musical world, and is proud to finally share her delicately beautiful 5-track EP, Like I Always Do, co-produced by celebrated engineer and drummer Tom Broome. Bursting with ethereal vocals and introspective lyricism, her music has been described as Undeniably nostalgic (Happy Magazine, 2023). To celebrate the release of her debut EP, Emily Bateman is performing a stripped down set at Movespace on Dominion Road.
Influenced by artists like Lana Del Rey, Big Thief and Mazzy Star, Emily fuses folk, pop and rock elements to create dreamy ballads and ethereal indie pop songs. Accompanied by Otis Christoffersen, expect a stripped-back, dreamy rendition of the brand new EP, and maybe even an Adrianne Lenker cover!
Opening for Emily is Auckland-based artist 'Mizzy'. Mizzy blends delicate, ethereal sounds of dream-pop and indie-folk with an alt-rock edge. With an introspective and candid, yet slightly hazy lyrical perspective, she navigates raw concepts of dreams, doubts, loss, and growing pains. Currently in the process of recording her debut EP, which promises to explore adventurous soundscapes, Mizzy's music invites listeners into a world of vulnerability and strength.
