Gig Information

Celebrate the Year of the Dragon, as we bring together the most outstanding choirs of the many from China who have entered the World Choir Games 2024. Two special ‘Night of the Dragon’ concerts will be held in the atmospheric surroundings and warm acoustics of Auckland’s Holy Trinity Cathedral.

Expect highly polished, beautiful and moving performances from the featured groups, who are all celebrated within the vast choral world of mainland China. As an exciting bonus, each concert will begin with a short presentation from a specially assembled massed choir, conducted by one of our esteemed World Choir Games jurors.

China Welfare Institute Children's Palace Little Companion Art Troupe Choir (CWICPLCATC) was founded on 1st June 1955 by Mme. Soong Ching Ling, Honorary Chairman of People's Republic of China. In recent years, LCATC has participated in major performances on different occasions including the Closing Ceremony of APEC Meeting, SCO Summit, opening and closing ceremony of 2010 Shanghai Expo Exhibition, opening ceremony of 2014 Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, 2014 Shanghai International Children’s Arts Festival and 2018 China International Import Expo Welcome Banquet performance.

Sacred Heart Canossian College Choir has nurtured 106 girls with the age of 13 to 16. The choir participates in various local and international choral competitions every year and has achieved remarkable results. In 2011, the choir got the Gold Medal in the 1st World Choir Championships for Youth and Young Adults (Graz, Austria), and the Gold Award in the 11th China International Choral Festival (Beijing, China) in 2012. Besides actively participating in various choral events and competitions, the choir has great endeavour in giving performances to charitable organisations and the communities, such as the Opening Ceremony of the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Leadership Institute, Christmas Carolling at Canossa Hospital, The Helena May Christmas Lunch and Hong Kong Diocese Mission Sunday.

Shenzhen Futian Star Bright Choir was found in March 2017 by Chen Guanguhi, the mission being to promote Chinese music and culture internationally. Consisting of 50 members, the choir’s diverse musical background has proved to be an advantage. The choir has gained big support from culture departments of Shenzen Futian municipal government. In 2019, the choir travelled to Sweden and Norway to represent the ministry of culture China, this tour received high praise and was regarded as the China Norway diplomatic icebreaker. Shenzhen Futian Star Bright Choir defines itself as a cultural ambassador and the cultural label for Shenzhen, they have also been referred to as one of the best mixed choirs in China.

These will be two wonderful nights of fellowship and fine music for everyone who enjoys stunning costumes and superb singing alongside our Chinese community.
