KŪMEA MAI RĀ TE REO I TE TOTO O TE WHENUA KI TE TOTO O TE TĀNGATA
draw to us the language in the blood of the land - karanga from the debut single 'KA MUA KA MURI' from new spellbinding artist HINE.
One of a kind gig with full band backed by musician maestro's from the Crayford Jazz Dynasty. HINE at Māoriland launches the first of 5 waiata from her maiden voyage EP, celebrating Māreikura Māori. Each song a mihi to a different 'Hine' ranging from Papatūānuku, Hine Te Iwa Iwa, Murirangawhenua, Hine Moana, Hine Raukatauri & Hine Takurua. All original songs written by multi-instrumentalist GiGi Crayford on the auto-harp, piano & guitar. A jazz folk fusion weaving Taonga Pūoro, sonic storytelling & poetry. A mixture of Te Reo Māori & English, this powerful set will echo through your bones & reverberate your soul. The debut song for Papatūānuku 'KA MUA KA MURI' explores the grief of living in a matrix paved over matriarch world and the journey to return to the earth. HINE's songs are born from the experience of pulling of the threads of her ancestry and exploring the mana of those who are pou in our world, wāhine.
Me i kore ake ngā wāhine, me i kore ake ngā mea katoa.
