Contemporary singer-songwriter and guitarist Nina Lane is an original Kiwi songstress in an age of soundalikes. She performs with multi-instrumentalist and long-time music partner Bryan Owens. John Fraser accompanies the duo on upright acoustic bass.
Known for their originality and heartfelt lyrics, this unique Northland ensemble plays songs inspired by a fusion of musical genres described as an alt-folk/blues/jazz crossover.
“Her voice flows like moonlight between matai trees: warm, soft and full of mystery” – Entertainment Today
As a lyricist, Nina evokes clear imagery. She draws out delicate and joyful aspects of life, writing about intriguing people, the shifting sands of love, her travels and the magnetic pull of her birthplace Aotearoa calling her back home.
Bryan is an attuned accompanist and innovative cowriter who adds musical colour and flair to their sound on bouzouki, guitar, mandolin, fiddle and harmony vocals.
“The perfect foil for Lane’s fine guitar playing” – NZ Musician
John Fraser anchors the sound with his deep, resonant double bass seamlessly weaving the musical tapestry together.
Nina and Bryan will be touring the South Island in January 2025 with their latest album of original songs called Holding the Flame.
