Gig Information

Support from Paul Cathro + Beth Torrance

After a 4-year hiatus, ElectricUTOPIA band Lake South return with their best yet, the soaring epic 'We lived our lives on top of this'.

Their fourth album was written in the pockets of free time in the 3 years since the birth of Lake's first child. Immense joy, white nights, the mourning of a life lived lonely, and the delicate embrace of a love without limit.

LAKE SOUTH

Lake South takes the best of the Aotearoa New Zealand songwriting tradition and infuses it with raw emotion and electronics. Defiant, DIY, indie anthems for people who give a damn.

These are the kind of songs that make you want to run down an empty street at dusk, screaming your heart out for a better future. As the band makes their way across the motu, prepare for a live show that hits deep.

The band has released 3 critically acclaimed albums, with Graham Reid calling Lake an 'electro-folk postcard poet of his doubting generation'.
The current line-up features Theo Sekeris (Ras Judah, Rubita) on bass, Eddie Crawshaw (Sheep Dog & Wolf, Bonaparte) on drums, and Penelope Esplin (French for Rabbits, Eigenface) on harmonies and synths.

PAUL CATHRO

Tāmaki Makaurau-based musician Paul Cathro grew up in Dunedin, where he was involved in bands such as Biff Merchants & Alizarin Lizard before starting Ha the Unclear with his brother Michael.

Though he is best known for his work with Ha the Unclear, Cathro has regularly released music as a solo artist. His second full length album ‘Catapult’, (first album Head First Into Solid Ground released in 2016) is a collection of 11 quirky power pop anthems. Three singles have been released to date: Distance in November 2024 (which made the 95bfm top 10 twice), No Life on Mars in March and Throw Me Back in April 2025.
Paul Cathro is joined by Joshua Worthington-Church (Princess Chelsea, Exploding Rainbow Orchestra) on bass, and Jamie Hannah (Spawts, Two Cartoons) on drums.

BETH TORRANCE

There’s something instantly captivating about the music of Beth Torrance. She skilfully simmers our most deep and untameable feelings down to their purest form, offering them to the world as songs that are poetic, potent, and true.

Based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Torrance’s latest offering, 2024’s Tiny Flowers EP (Particle Recordings), features original illustrations by political cartoonist for The Observer, Chris Riddell, and was met with critical acclaim across the motu, charting at #20 on the Hot Aotearoa Singles Chart. Torrance’s forthcoming EP, Your Favourite, is still to come.
