Hamiora is back in town and The Situations are lacing up the boots for the Vinyl and Online release of their fourth full (of a) length album Winning Home and Away. Catch the Papakura and Pakuranga power pomp popsters bolstered by the safe hands of Joe Kaptein at Whammy Bar, Karangahape Road, where WHaA will be available on Vinyl for the first time.
Written between Muscat, Kampala, Jeddah, Huddersfield, and Shanghai and tracked across a few weekends at Frisbee, WHaA finds the band reflecting on whakapapa concepts, ways of living, thinking about thinking, buy-in and emotional pomp. The latest single is Thinking About My Brain, and Samuel Kett (Ngāti Tūwharetoa) explains:
“Taha Hinengaro concepts form the basis here. This waiata reflects a new awareness of how deeply our mind can search for meaning from all angles. There is an inward pull, sometimes too full on, sometimes quiet, though the awareness alone doesn’t stop us going there. Moments of intrigue are also reflected upon, and an appreciation for the beautiful people in our lives — ‘Chef-d'oeuvre dans ma vitrine’ — and the beautiful moments we have experienced without thinking — ‘rugby in a sandstorm.’ Stu Kett sings this one. I would have thought about it too much…”
Also on the bill are Bub (with featured guest Harrison the Harpist) and The Nudie Suits (!!!) Extra vibrations from The Dream Warriors Tag Team Party Possie DJ Crew.
Tickets are $20 from Undertheradar or $30 on the door
