DAILY KENO Release Debut Album THAT MY JC
WELLINGTON, NZ — DAILY KENO announce the release of their debut album THAT MY JC, an 8-track exploration of loneliness, love, and fatherhood. Engineered and recorded by Lee Prebble at his acclaimed Wellington studio, The Surgery, the record is the vision of songwriter Mark Sommerville, realised with an all-star band featuring Riki Gooch, Jacqui Nyman, and Dayle Jellyman.
Blending spacious guitar and synthesiser with deep grooves and heartfelt vocals, the album creates a sound both intimate and expansive. Lead singles Sunlight. Sugar and Peaches & Crème have already drawn praise, with Music, Movies & Madness calling Sunlight. Sugar “a lot of fun, a dreamy musical experience.”
Sommerville says: “This album is a reflection of where I am creatively and emotionally right now. I wanted to make something sincere and sonically simple/minimal.”
DAILY KENO launch THAT MY JC live on Friday, September 26 at the Newtown Community Centre (Whare Tapere) with special guests Love Party and Frances Grass.
Wellington’s Love Party is a punk band that only sings love songs. Led by Kate Yesberg (vocals/bass) and Dayle Jellyman (vocals/guitar), their fuzzy power-pop conjures up the atmosphere of a children’s birthday party for adults with a healthy irreverence towards the status quo.
Energetic, mischievous and down-to-earth, they combine tasty guitar figures and cheeky duo vocals with driving drums and basslines that get the dancefloor moving.
Married for a decade before they started the band, Kate and Dayle bring an infectious chemistry to their songcraft. Recorded at Dr Lee Prebble’s Surgery studio with Cory Champion on drums, their debut album WOW! is a timestamped document of everything they have learned about love so far, from the romantic to the ridiculous to the universal.
