More about ADV:

Naarm-based artist ADV believes that music is less about genre and more about vibes. Born in Cape Town, South Africa, and raised in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa, his music is a rich tapestry influenced by Björk, Rainy Miller, Leo Bhanji, Matt Corby, Sade, Amy Winehouse and the sonic aesthetics of his two homelands. From the outset of his career, ADV also explored the sounds of the UK’s underground scene, influenced by his time living in Manchester.

With the release of his debut album, Trust Issues, in 2024, ADV solidified his place in the NZ music industry, performing alongside key collaborators Noah Matariki Page, Luca García Ferrari and Taygen Newton, as well as headlining the inaugural Forage Fest.

Trust Issues is the first ever Afro-Kiwi visual album, exploring a relationship dangerously close to breaking point. In Trust Issues, ADV’s emotive lyricism shines through, and his penchant for detailing visual narratives invites listeners into a subjectivity rooted in vivid realism.

ADV’s sound has evolved to incorporate elements from Australia’s indie soundscape, exploring a blend between the likes of Royel Otis, Great Gable, and the Preatures, and other legacy artists like Massive Attack and JMSN, marking a distinct shift in vocal delivery and a more industrial bass/percussion.

ADV’s upcoming releases begin to explore themes outside of toxic relationships, as he builds a new life within the sonic landscape of Naarm.
