IAS Cushion Concerts presents local bands in the intimate environment of historic Inverlochy House. Join us as Principal Violinist, Yury Gezentsvey, performs some of Telemann's baroque Violin Fantasias for solo violin, as part of the opening celebration of Inverlochy’s Fundraiser exhibition.

Born in 1952 in Kiev, Ukraine (USSR at the time), Yury Gezentsvey graduated from the Gniessin Institute of Music in Moscow (1974). He emigrated to Chicago, USA (1979) where he was Concertmaster of the Chicago Civic Orchestra, before being engaged as Concertmaster of the Caracas Philharmonic Orchestra in Venezuela (1980), where he also formed a Chamber Ensemble with American pianist Harriet Serr (most acclaimed resident pianist in Venezuela, who also became his mother-in-law). Yury was appointed Principal First Violinist of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (1985) and, together with his wife Desirée and their three daughters, he made his new home in Wellington.
Yury has become a valued member of the music world in New Zealand, having taken part in several International Festivals of the Arts in Wellington as a Chamber Music Violinist. As the leader of the Dominion Quartet, he recorded all 17 string quartets by Alfred Hill (NAXOS).
Since his retirement from the NZSO at the end of 2022, he has been enjoying playing with Orchestra Wellington, teaching, and treasuring family life with Desiree, their children and six Kiwi grandchildren.
