Experience a vibrant fusion of traditional Scandinavian folk and bold improvisations with this dynamic Swedish/NZ trio. With deep roots in Nordic folk music, both as soloists and ensemble players, all these three well-established musicians create an unmistakable connection to the rich traditions while pushing creative boundaries. The music moves seamlessly between traditional Scandinavian folk and original compositions, all with a lot of space for improvisations.
Featuring violin, flutes, saxophones and bass clarinet, Marine / Simonsen/ Wiskari deliver an emotionally rich performance that bridges hemispheres and traditions. A playful yet masterful exchange of four distinct musical voices, each infused with its own unique style and colour:
Jonas Simonsen – a pioneering flutist in Sweden's folk/world scene since the 1980s, known for his rhythmically charged and personal style.
Mia Marine – a powerhouse fiddler, composer, and educator with international acclaim, blending groove and tradition.
Hanna Wiskari – soprano saxophonist and cultural connector, with a unique sound rooted in Nordic folk and enriched by her intercultural work in Aotearoa.
Expect joyful compositions, spontaneous improvisations and deep connections to Nordic roots music infused with global perspectives and joyful celebration.
