Altmusic is proud to present an incredible lineup of renowned international and local sound artists touring Aotearoa in July.
Jason Lescalleet is a celebrated experimental electronic music artist whose influence on the contemporary avant-garde cannot be overstated. From lo-fi reel-to-reel soundscaping, work for hand-held cassette machines, to digital sampling and computer generated composition, Jason Lescalleet has exploded the notion of what is possible within the realm of tape-based music.
Gerry Hemingway (percussion, composition, film) is one of the great improvising percussionists in the world today. He has been composing and performing solo and in ensemble since 1974. He is well known for his eleven years in the Anthony Braxton Quartet and his many collaborations with some of the world’s most outstanding improvisers and composers. As a trailblazing solo artist he has released five recordings, most recently "Kernelings" CD/DVD, and in recent years incorporated collaborations with visual artist Beth Warshafsky and composer Sarah Weaver, presented with his own works on this tour.
Sarah Weaver is a New York-based experimental composer, conductor, and technologist working internationally as a specialist in solo, ensemble, and telematic music (live performance via the internet by musicians in difference geographic locations). Weaver is co-director of the SLM Ensemble with composer/bassist Mark Dresser. She works with Gerry Hemingway in this ensemble context and composes for him as a soloist. She is a certified Deep Listening℠ instructor, which is described by founder and composer Pauline Oliveros as “listening in every possible way to everything possible, to hear no matter what one is doing.”
These three artists will appear in Christchurch, Dunedin, Wellington and Auckland with the support of some of New Zealand’s diverse sonic artists such as Rosy Parlane, Zeug Gezeugt and Nell Thomas.
