Watch The Trailer For 'The Curse Of The Chills'

Friday 8th July, 2016 3:44PM

A new documentary charting the career of Martin Phillipps and his iconic band The Chills is set to be screened in London next month, ahead of its official release next year. Titled The Curse Of The Chills, the feature-length film follows the group's initial local success to being on the brink of international stardom, and then the depression, anxiety and addiction that followed when it all went pear-shaped.

The film is compiled of never-before-seen live footage, interviews and archive footage. As explained in the synopsis as released by Fire Records:

"With exclusive access to the Phillipps family home video archive, the film provides an intimate portrait of the man behind The Chills. Exploring the source of his creativity and his songwriting aesthetic, the film also follows Martin on his journey from scenester musician to international star. It also charts his downward spiral, as interest in the band waned and depression and addiction set in. It’s an age-old rock and roll story, and one that provides real insight through Martin’s unflinchingly honest testimony about his heroin addiction and recovery – and the potentially life-threatening medical conditions that resulted from it. Happily, there is a final act to the story, and the film is ultimately one of redemption and vindication of living a life where you stay true to your beliefs – whatever the cost."

Update: Original trailer has been removed - new trailer expected in 2017 along with details of official release of the documentary.
