Angel Olsen Returning To New Zealand For Two Shows (+ New Video)

Thursday 25th August, 2016 8:59AM

Angel Olsen is poised to drop her new album My Woman next week, and as a giant cherry on top she has announced two New Zealand shows for December to celebrate. Angel was last on these shores for Laneway Festival 2015, where she blew away showgoers with her incredible stage presence. This time she'll be bringing a whole raft of songs from her new record, which will no doubt include the single 'Sister', which she just unveiled along with a video she co-directed with Conor Hagen. Here are the tour details and the hot-off-the-press clip...

Tuesday 13th December, San Fran, Wellington
Wednesday 14th December, Kings Arms Tavern, Auckland

Feast your eyes on her brand new video for 'Sister'...

Folk and indie rock fans rejoice! Not only does the brilliant American singer and guitarist ANGEL OLSEN release a brand new album next week, she’s also coming back to New Zealand for two shows this December.

Following her Laneway Festival performances in 2015, Angel Olsen will be playing Wellington’s San Fran on December 13 and Auckland’s legendary Kings Arms on December 14 in support of her new album MY WOMAN.

Tickets go on sale at midday tomorrow, Friday August 26.

Angel Olsen has given us reverb-shrouded poetic swoons, shadowy folk, grunge-pop band workouts and haunting, fingerpicked epics over her first two albums.

Anyone reckless enough to have typecast Angel according to 2013's Burn Your Fire For No Witness is in for a sizeable surprise with her third album, MY WOMAN. The crunchier, blown-out production of the former is gone, but that fire is now burning wilder. Her disarming, timeless voice is even more front-and-centre than before, and the overall production is lighter. Yet the strange, raw power and slowly unspooling incantations of her previous efforts remain, so anyone who might attempt to pigeonhole Angel as either an elliptical outsider or a pop personality is going to be wrong whichever way they choose, as she continues to reign over the land between the two with a haunting obliqueness and sophisticated grace.

The first two singles from MY WOMAN, “Intern” and “Shut Up and Kiss Me”, both got the nod for Pitchfork’s Best New Music and with dates across the USA and Europe to support the album, New Zealand fans have the opportunity to see Angel Olsen at her best.
