Iconic alt-rock outfit the Pixies have announced three New Zealand dates for next March. The Boston-formed band are returning to these shores for the first time since their 20th anniversary shows in 2010, but this run will see original members Black Francis, David Lovering and Joey Santiago joined by recent recruit Paz Lenchantin, who took over bass duties from Kim Deal after she departed the band in 2013. This upcoming jaunt will see the Pixies bring songs from their new album Head Carrier, which was released in September via Pixies Music and PIAS. Here are the tour details...

PIXIES
RETURNING TO NEW ZEALAND IN MARCH 2017

Almost seven years since their debut New Zealand concerts, seminal rockers PIXIES announce their return to New Zealand in March 2017 as part of their Head Carrier world tour.

One of the most influential and important bands over the last 30 years, Pixies performed to sell-out crowds for two Auckland shows in March 2010 and a Christchurch date in August 2010.

Pixies will kick off their 2017 New Zealand tour at Christchurch’s Horncastle Arena on March 9, followed by Wellington’s TSB Arena on March 10 and Auckland’s Vector Arena on March 11.

Tickets go on sale at 2pm on Tuesday, December 6.

Spark Thanks is bringing an exciting pre-sale just for Spark customers from midday Friday, December 2 until 5pm on Sunday, December 4.

Touring New Zealand in celebration of their latest album, Head Carrier (out now through Pixiesmusic/Play It Again Sam), the tour sees vocalist/guitarist Black Francis, drummer David Lovering and guitarist Joey Santiago welcome bassist Paz Lenchatin to the Pixies’ permanent line-up.

Lenchantin has been the band’s touring bassist since January 2014 and played an integral part in the recording of Head Carrier. Her cool and dreamy soprano can be heard singing lead on the track ‘All I Think About Now’.

“Paz is a joy to be around,” said Lovering. “She’s very funny, and we’re having more fun than we’ve ever had as a band, we all have a blast together, on and off stage.”

Set lists from recent UK shows have soared between the old and new, from their 1987 debut to tracks from the new album. The Telegraph exclaiming “Pixies pummel the Brixton Academy with songs of visceral brilliance,” and The Independent stating “Their job here was done, and done wonderfully.”
