King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Unleash First Taste Of 'Murder Of The Universe' LP
Prolific Australian psych rockers King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have revealed details of the second album in their ambitious five-album plan for 2017. Following on from their February release Flying Microtonal Banana, the upcoming album is entitled Murder of the Universe, and to give us a taste King Gizz and company have shared a VHS-style video odyssey.
The 13-minute clip encompasses the third and closing chapter of Murder of the Universe, which is comprised of five songs and is dubbed ‘Han Tyumi & The Murder Of The Universe’, with Han Tyumi being introduced as a cyborg in the chaotic, part-lyric, part performance, part sci-fi voyage clip. In a statement accompanying the video's release, frontman Stu Mackenzie shed some light on the composition:
“It’s almost unavoidable. Some scientists predict that the downfall of humanity is just as likely to come at the hands of Artificial Intelligence, as it is war or viruses or climate change. But these are fascinating times too. Human beings are visual creatures – vision is our primary instinct, and this is very much a visual, descriptive, bleak record. While the tone is definitely apocalyptic, it is not necessarily purely a mirror of the current state of humanity. It’s about new non-linear narratives.”
