Premiere: Flo Wilson Shares Video For '(Please) Keep Breathing'
Wellington sound artist Flo Wilson has released a video for the title track to her debut three-song collection (Please) Keep Breathing. The powerful new clip directed by Ali Burns digs deeper into Wilson’s exploration of bodies and technology, with intimate footage of dancers in motion set against a pointillistic, free flowing electronic soundscape. We caught up with Wilson who shared her thoughts on the new video…
“I’ve always wanted to make something visually intimate, but strong too because that's how I write music. Exploring the boundary between how I'm supposed to present myself as a woman, and what the reality is.
There's this super dominant narrative of women in a purely tender or sexual context in both music and film, which feels so far from my everyday experience. It was important for me to use women and not shoot them in a purely 'sensitive' or 'soft' way, but show their mutual support as a sign of strength. The whole video is a visualisation of that support in a relationship; when one of you is having a hard time, the instinct is to go to their aid. There is no dominant person who supports, but two people navigating the hurdles together.”
Watch the video for ‘(Please) Keep Breathing’ and catch Wilson live this Friday 17th November at her EP release party, alongside WOMB and Hera Lindsay Bird…
