'Heed The Call' Live Show Announced - Mark Williams, Tina Cross, Collision + More

Thursday 15th February, 2018 8:30AM

Late last year the groundbreaking 'Heed The Call - Whakarongo, Nga Tamariki!' compilation of 70s & 80s Aotearoa soul, funk and disco was unleashed upon the world, sharing hard-to-find local sounds with an eager and appreciative new generation of listeners. In an exciting development, compilers Alan Perrott and John Baker have announced Heed The Call Live, a show that brings together some of the record's legendary talents for a one-off celebration of Aotearoa's dance music history at the Hollywood Theatre in Avondale, Auckland.

The evening will feature rare live performances by Mark Williams, Collision, Tina Cross, The Inbetweens, The Totals, and a DJ set by Alan Perrott. The organisers promise "a full blown recreation of the suburban discotheques that ruled the local scene, the places where mums, dads, bros, sisters, kids and the olds shook off every day life to become disco kings and queens for the night." Tickets are sure to be snapped up fast, here's the info...

Press release:

Disco will live again when the leading lights of the 70s New Zealand boogie scene make the music turn you on and on one more time.

Yes, the lauded Heed the Call collection of Kiwi soul, funk and disco is going live with Mark Williams, Collision, Tina Cross, The Inbetweens, The Totals and co compiler Alan Perrott DJ set - performing at Avondale’s Hollywood Theatre from 730pm on Friday, March 23.

This will be a full blown recreation of the suburban discotheques that ruled the local scene, the places where mums, dads, bros, sisters, kids and the olds shook off every day life to become disco kings and queens for the night.

It will be a unique, one-off event with Mark Williams performing songs not heard here for more than 40 years while Collision, possibly the funkiest band to ever leave our shores, have not played together since the late 70s. Voodoo Lady, the hit Collision recorded with the late-great Dalvanius, has never been performed in Auckland. Tina Cross will once again be girl-next-door diva.

But wait, there’s more, the event will also boast 70s visuals and lighting effects, DJs, and a backing band comprised of some of Auckland’s top funk musicians.

So, you better heed this call as it may never come again.

Tickets will be available from www.utr.co.nz from Monday 19th February - be quick as this will sell out.
