Premiere: Dominic 'Tourettes' Hoey + Gemma Syme + Nick Harte Share 'Hotel Room'

Monday 26th February, 2018 11:12AM

Multi-talented poet, rapper and novelist Dominic 'Tourettes' Hoey has shared a collaborative track with Christchurch artists Nick Harte (the prime mover of Shocking Pinks) and Gemma Syme (aka Instant Fantasy) titled 'Hotel Room'. Hoey and Syme's voices float on top of an echoed-out luminescent guitar soundscape provided by Harte, speaking of intimate moments shared in transient spaces. We caught up with Hoey who provided insight into the trio's new single...

"Hotel Room was a poem I wrote in Melbourne in 2012 when I was over there doing some shows. There’s something so transient about hotels that reminded me of one night stands, hence the metaphor.

I kind of forgot about it until me and Gemma went on tour in 2014 and ended up staying at The Sherwood in Queenstown when it was just about to open. We recorded the song over one of Nick’s amazing soundscapes in the hotel room and then promptly forgot about it again, until a few months ago when Gemma sent it into NZ on Air and lo and behold we got a grant."

You can catch Dominic Hoey performing his one man show 'Your Heart Looks Like A Vagina' at Auckland's Basement Theatre from Saturday 10th April - Wednesday 14th April and Wellington's BATS Theatre from Saturday 17th April - Wednesday 21st April. You can also catch him this Saturday 3rd March at Auckland City Limits 2018.

Nick Harte's new group Dog Power will be performing at the Christchurch Art Gallery on Wednesday 7th March.
