Premiere: Wellington's Bad Friend Share Debut Collection 'Best Of'
Wellington "dreamo pop" unit Bad Friend have unveiled their debut collection Best of, hot on the heels of a stellar run of live shows and single releases. Recorded in the bedroom of Cursed Helm / Crystal Magic Records label boss Fraser Austin and mixed and mastered by Reuben Winter (Totems, milk), the EP is the perfect gateway to Bad Friend's shimmering sound world, and an ideal soundtrack to brighten up your mopey winter days. We had to know more about the jangle / fuzz-guitar four-piece comprised of Emma Hall-Phillips (aka Aw B), Victoria Chellew, Zac Sutton (Prizegiving) and Taylor Groves (Lontalius), Bad Friend kindly dished the dirt on their new release and shared fun facts about the band members...
"Bad Friend got together early-2017, after Emma finally decided to do something with her abandoned and unfinished Garageband tracks she recorded in her bedroom. After recruiting Taylor and Zac for a seven minute set at a Newtown house party, the band was rounded off with Victoria, and Bad Friend’s full line-up debuted at Wellington’s Sad By Sad South festival.
Our debut album 'Best of' is a collection of dreamo pop bangers about anxiety, friendship and Pete Wentz doppelgangers - all recorded in comfort of Fraser Austin's bedroom.
Fun facts:
Emma - My mum made me sell Justin Bieber’s drink bottle on trademe and it made the news.
Victoria - I had hypnotherapy to try get over my fear of eggs - it didn’t work.
Zac - I have that genetic anti-coriander thing.
Taylor - I made breakfast for Jacinda Ardern."
