Here's Five: Soaked Oats Share Their Favourite Songs About Food
Dunedin guitar-pop artists Soaked Oats are in the midst of their winter The Shred tour, with shows lined up at Auckland's Galatos and Wellington's Caroline this weekend, and a performance on the cards at Karangahape Road's annual The Others Way festival in August. The prolific four-piece of Conor Feehly, Max Holmes, Henry Francis and Oscar Mein are touring on the strength of back to back releases Corduroy Cape: A Persnickety Mixtape, No Slip Ups and Stone Fruit Melodies. As their nutritious name suggests, Soaked Oats are no strangers to a tasty tune, we hit up the band and asked them to select their favourite five food-themed songs, to whet your appetite for the upcoming shows! Snack on their selections and accompanying words below...
1. Jay Mankita - 'Everybody Likes Fruits and Vegetables'
Starting it off with a song recommended by our friend Jack Hawke who actually named our band. Quite abstract right off the bat but we like to keep em guessing.
2. Koizilla - 'A Spicy Curry or a Chicken Kebab'
They're my favourite Dunedin band and I also enjoy a spicy curry or a chicken kebab. - Conor
3. Connan Mockasin 'Caramel'
Making caramel is like making a song; It's so good when you get it right but so easy to get wrong. Connan's 'Caramel' sounds like it tastes when you get caramel spot on. - Henry
4. Plums - 'Parking Lot'
Because I've eaten a plum in a parking lot, and these guys are amazing. - Max
5. Ted Lucas - 'It is so nice to get stoned'
I'll put this in here. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't, but I'd say each of us have definitely consumed all of the above in some shape or form whilst under the influence. And Ted Lucas is the dude. - Oscar
