Blood Orange Drops Two Videos 'Charcoal Baby' + 'Jewelry'
Multi-talented UK artist Blood Orange aka Dev Hynes has shared two singles from his upcoming album Negro Swan, with both tunes accompanied by clips directed by Crack Stevens and the artist himself. 'Charcoal Baby' is a groove-heavy future soul song with Stevens' split-screen visuals celebrating a diversity of activities with family and friends, while Hynes' video for 'Jewelry' pairs his heartfelt slow-jam with footage of shirtless bodies dancing in a park, and the artist busting out graceful moves surrounded by urban greenery.
Dev Hynes states that his new record “is an exploration into my own and many types of black depression, an honest look at the corners of black existence, and the ongoing anxieties of queer/people of color. A reach back into childhood and modern traumas, and the things we do to get through it all. The underlying thread through each piece on the album is the idea of HOPE, and the lights we can try to turn on within ourselves with a hopefully positive outcome of helping others out of their darkness.”
'Negro Swan' is out Friday 24th August via Domino.
