Christchurch Swamp Rockers The Hex Waves Unleash 'Canine Rising' EP

Monday 6th August, 2018 3:02PM

Christchurch independent flag-bearers Melted Ice Cream have joined forces with Ilam Press Records to release Canine Rising, a doozy of a new collection from Cantabrian scuzzy swamp-rockers The Hex Waves. Five smeary in-the red, wig-flipping tracks pour into listeners' earholes like thick black tar - congealing into ass-kicking riffage when the mood strikes the diabolical trio of Luke Wood (Damned Evangelist, Shakin' Luke Wood), Jamie Stratton and Nadine Luscombe. The gloomy three piece shared an incisive accompanying statement on the new EP...

"Some folk called them ‘goth’, but they always thought of what they were doing more specifically as ‘swamp rock’… but less Louisiana and more Woolston. The shitty industrial swamps of Christchurch."

Melted Ice Cream aren't content to rest on their laurels, they've got a twenty track compilation of local artists titled Sickest Smashes From Arson City: Legacy Edition lined up to assault your eardrums later this week, featuring contributions from Brian Tamaki and the Kool-Aid Kids, Cowboy Machine, Pavlov's Puss and a whole bunch more. While you count the moments waiting for that collection to arrive, dive in to Canine Rising here, and cop the highly covetable limited edition cassette (only fifteen copies) while you can...

'Canine Rising' is available on limited edition cassette via Melted Ice Cream / Ilam Press Records.
