Wu-Tang Clan Announce New Zealand Shows

The rumours are true - legendary hip hop masters of the Shaolin style Wu-Tang Clan are heading to New Zealand this December for shows in Auckland and Christchurch. Original members of the hugely influential NYC rap crew Ghostface Killah, Method Man, GZA, Inspectah Deck, U-God, RZA, Raekwon, Masta Killah and Cappadonna will play their first ever headline shows in Aotearoa. They'll be celebrating the 25th anniversary of their iconic 1993 debut album Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), which saw RZA's noir-ish cinematic production synergising the staggering lyrical flow of each individual member to change hip hop history forever. Each rappers' solo work outside of the core collaborative records only added to the collective's untouchable mystique, GZA's Liquid Swords, Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, and Ghostface KIllah's Ironman are three of many massively impactful solo joints. To celebrate 25 years of their groundbreaking debut album Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) the Wu-Tang Clan announce all nine remaining members will play their first ever New Zealand headline shows with the full lineup, this December.

Ghostface Killah, Method Man, GZA, Inspectah Deck, U-God, RZA, Raekwon, Masta Killa and Cappadonna will perform two shows only for New Zealand fans – in Christchurch at Horncastle Arena on Thursday 13th of December, with their second and final New Zealand show on Friday 14th December in Auckland at Trusts Stadium.

Bringing together the full lineup of the legendary Wu Tang Clan to New Zealand was no easy feat, with promoter Gareth Popham stating, “This is a show we’ve been wanting to do since Fuzen began 19 years ago and we couldn’t be happier to announce today.”

Taking their group name from a powerful, mythical kung fu sword wielded by an invincible congregation of warriors, the crew is a loose collective of nine MCs, who formed in 1993 and turned the hip-hop world on its head with their approach to the industry.

2018 marks the 25th annivesary of their album 36 Chambers and this is the first time New Zealand audiences will see the full lineup of the group perform on Aotearoa soil.
