Watch Hex's Spellbinding Video 'Billboard'

Monday 10th September, 2018 11:01AM

Wellington witch-rockers Hex are currently honing their craft touring the US, and have conjured up a powerful clip for their song 'Billboard' drawn from this year's spellbinding debut album The Hill Temple. Directed by Amber Beaton (who also created the superbly stylised video for the band's 'Sight Beyond The Line'), the fiery visuals depict a trio of veil-wearing activists destroying a 'Men Against Abortion' sign, politically direct imagery based on singer and guitarist Kiki Van Newtown's own experiences. She aptly explained the original incident to Billboard...

"I just was having a bad day... I had a lot of anger and just was, 'Right...' I pulled the car over and luckily had a crowbar in the back and just went and ripped down the billboard. My kids were just watching me and I was like, 'I'm doing a good thing here!'... it shouldn't be a political issue, it should just be a health issue, but it's been turned into an unnecessarily politicised issue for reasons we all know, patriarchy and capitalism. I wanted (the video) to be a bit fun, kind of like a celebration of the bolstering of one's energies, that kind of thing."
