Unknown Mortal Orchestra Announce Album 'IC-01 Hanoi'

Wednesday 26th September, 2018 9:24AM

There's no rest for the wicked when it comes to Ruban Nielson's internationally acclaimed group Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Currently still touring the globe in celebration of their sublime latest album Sex & Food, UMO have announced an upcoming instrumental album titled IC-01 Hanoi set for release in October, and shared that record's lead tune 'Hanoi 6'. The seven track collection was recorded by Nielson, his brother Kody Nielson and long-term UMO member Jake Portrait in Phu Sa Studios in Hanoi, Vietnam (where they also record parts of Sex & Food), with contributions from Minh Nguyen and father Chris Nielson - who also appeared on horns at UMO's dazzling recent Auckland Town Hall show.

The Silver Scroll-nominated group state their second record for the year was "compiled from a series of recording sessions in the warm rain and thunder of monsoon Hanoi, Vietnam last year." Their spellbinding new tune is an immersive sonic journey through chiming guitars, mesmerising percussion, languid horns and indefinable sounds stretching out over nearly ten minutes. UMO are returning to Aotearoa this summer for three sure to be massive shows alongside Fat Freddy's Drop, vibe out to 'Hanoi 6' here...

'IC-01 Hanoi' is out Friday 26th October via Jagjaguwar.
